What Are Heart Palpitations?

Heart palpitations are caused when an electrical signal fires from the wrong place at the wrong time, causing you to experience an early heartbeat, which feels like a fluttering or pounding sensation in your chest.

And sometimes in the throat or neck. These usually last a few seconds to a few minutes and come and go at different times, especially at night.

Can magnesium stop heart palpitations?

Many other triggers cause heart palpitations, which we will discuss in this article. However, one of the best natural remedies that you can use to stop palpitations is an essential mineral called Magnesium.

What Is Magnesium?

Magnesium is found in leafy greens, vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts. And humans require at least 300–750mg per day to maintain a healthy body. Magnesium is an electrolyte that works with calcium, potassium, and sodium to maintain a healthy heartbeat And to produce electrical impulses that control the rhythm and rate of your heartbeat.

It’s also very important to relax and widen your blood vessels (vasodilation) To keep your blood pressure stable and maintain healthy blood flow to and from your heart.

Many people are deficient in Magnesium, which can cause palpitations, arrhythmia, high blood pressure (hypertension), and angina (heart pain).

In fact, over 66% of the population is now deficient in Magnesium, because we do not consume enough vegetables, amongst many other factors.

Doctor’s Best High Absorption Magnesium Powder

In a powerful blender, combine all ingredients and process until smooth. Depending on the power of your blender, you may want to pulse the seeds first to ensure they get thoroughly ground.

Taste test your smoothie; if you need to add a little more stevia or more ice for thickness, do this now and blend until smooth.

Drink this once daily to boost your magnesium & potassium reserves and support a healthy heart.

Signs Of A Magnesium Deficiency

People who are low in Magnesium may suffer from heart palpitations,

because muscles in your heart and arteries may become tight and rigid, causing calcium to start building up in the wrong places and triggering electrical problems with the heart’s pacemaker.

Being overly tired may indicate a magnesium or Vitamin B1 deficiency, even when getting enough sleep.

Magnesium is essential to relax muscles in the body, so without enough, you may experience leg cramps, tight muscles, heart pain, etc…

People who suffer from depression or anxiety are usually deficient in Magnesium Since these conditions can raise cortisol, which depletes Magnesium in the body.

Causes Of Heart Palpitations and Magnesium Deficiencies

Now you can see the link between palpitations and Magnesium. Let’s take a look at what is causing these issues. The most common cause is consuming alcohol, which acts as a magnesium diuretic. Pulling Magnesium and other minerals out of the body through the kidneys.

Making it unavailable to control the pacemaker cells of the heart. Another cause is simply needing to eat more dark leafy greens.

Over 66% of people do not consume enough vegetables (8 cups per day) to meet their requirements for Magnesium.

Magnesium is found at the central atom within chlorophyll, the green liquid (lifeblood) of plants.

High stress or anxiety levels can raise a hormone called cortisol, which can deplete your Magnesium, or drinking caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea, or soda too often can deplete Magnesium and vitamin B1, causing vibrations. Training and exercising too vigorously without consuming enough magnesium/potassium can also have this effect.

Magnesium is essential for metabolizing sugar and carbohydrates into energy, so consuming too many refined foods will also lower your magnesium reserves. Fasting too often, such as following the one meal a day diet or 16:8 fasting pattern, will also diminish your magnesium reserves, so you may need to stagger your fasting to 2–3 days out of the week, eating in a wider window of time on the other days. (Or take some magnesium)

And finally, taking medications like diuretics, antibiotics, antacids, etc., It can also prevent you from taking up Magnesium into the cells where it needs to be.

Recommended Magnesium Supplements:

How To Stop Heart Palpitations With Magnesium

1. Start taking a supplement of magnesium glycinate, 200mg 2x daily, to help build up your magnesium reserves. If you are deficient or have an underlying health problem, replenishing your cellular Magnesium can take a few weeks to a few months.

2. Start eating 1–2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds every single day, preferably with a salad containing dark leafy greens rich in chlorophyll, such as Swiss chard, avocados, broccoli, arugula, brussels sprouts, cabbage etc.…

This will supply Magnesium, calcium, and potassium to stabilize the SA and AV nodes (pacemaker of your heart)

3. Cut back on alcoholic and caffeinated drinks and notice how your symptoms improve. Consuming these ensures you boost your Magnesium to overcome these issues.

4. If you suffer from stress, poor sleep, anxiety, or nervousness, consider consuming Vitamin B1. Magnesium works with B1 to help calm the body, relax the muscles surrounding the heart, and lower cortisol (stress hormone).

You can do this by eating 2–3 tablespoons of nutritional yeast daily, sprinkling it over your salad or eating it in a yogurt.

5. I also recommend eating more grass-fed red meat like beef, liver, or lamb. These supply heme-iron and vitamin B12 can improve blood quality, helping transport oxygen to and from the heart and keep its rhythm.
